Strengthening European participatory governance: EUSTRAT at the 4th European Citizens’ Initiative Network Gathering at the European Commission in Brussels

Europe Strategy Research Institute (EUSTRAT) was proud to be represented at the 4th European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) Network Gathering, held on 16–17 April 2026 at the Berlaymont Building and hosted by the European Commission.

As part of the ECI Ambassador community, our representative, Rawand Ben Brahim, joined policymakers, representatives of EU institutions, civil society actors, and national contact points to exchange ideas on strengthening citizen participation across Europe.

The European Citizens’ Initiative is a unique instrument of participatory democracy that enables EU citizens to directly propose new legislation by gathering at least one million signatures across seven Member States. It plays a vital role in bridging the gap between citizens and EU decision-making.

Through her participation, Rawand Ben Brahim contributed to discussions on communication practices and shared insights relevant to strengthening citizen engagement tools within the EU framework. Her engagement reflects EUSTRAT’s ongoing commitment to supporting research, dialogue, and active engagement on European participatory governance and institutional innovation.
