Hungary’s EU Council Presidency 2024 – Our Institute’s contribution

Hungary’s EU Council Presidency 2024 – Our Institute’s contribution

Between July 1 and December 31, 2024, Hungary held the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second time. During this period, the Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS) worked in close cooperation with the Ministry for European Union Affairs (EUM) to support the preparations and implementation of presidency-related tasks. The Institute for European Strategy, was a key partner in this process.

Our colleague, Viktória Lilla Pató, played a pivotal role as Secretary of the EU Presidency Working Group, coordinating internal efforts within LUPS and contributing to the execution of the EU Presidency Strategy.

Under the editorial coordination of our institute, two key volumes were published: On the Way to the Hungarian EU Presidency and The Hungarian EU Presidency 2024. A third publication, Assessing the Hungarian EU Presidency, is currently in progress.

Our policy paper series was also an integral part of the University’s EU Presidency strategy. Additionally, several events organized by our Institute in 2023 and 2024 contributed to the preparatory and implementation phases of the Presidency, including the Cohesion Summit I, the Academic Competitiveness conference, the Institutional Cycle Change conference, two book launch in Brussels in 2023 and 2024, as well as expert panels at the summer universities in Tusnádfürdő and Gombaszög, and various book presentations held at LUPS.

Réka Varga, Dean of the Faculty of Political and International Studies and Head of the EU Presidency Task Force, expressed her gratitude at a ceremonial reception to the more than one hundred university staff members who actively participated in the implementation of the presidency strategy. A detailed summary of the event is available on the Faculty’s website.
