About us
EUSTRAT is an institute of the Eötvös József Research Center at the University of Public Service (Nemzeti Közszolgálati Egyetem) in Hungary.
The institute is dedicated to shaping Hungary’s European policy, analyzing domestic and European developments, and addressing questions about the future.
The aim of the Research Institute is to contribute to a deeper understanding of Hungary’s foreign and EU strategies, and to offer a Hungarian perspective on the interpretation of European Union policies.
Our research priorities include exploring the effects of EU decision-making mechanisms, modeling economic and foreign policy trends, monitoring domestic and foreign policy developments in individual member states, and analyzing the interconnections between sustainable development and competitiveness.
The research program of the Institute is structured around four main pillars:
-
The analysis of the relationship between the European Union and Hungary,
-
The study of interactions between the EU and global politics and the world economy,
-
Mapping challenges related to sustainability and competitiveness,
-
Evaluating social and political dynamics.
Based on our 2025–2027 strategy, the following core principles guide the work of the Institute:
-
Professionalism and Objectivity – Our analyses are grounded in facts and in-depth research. The goal is to produce reliable and balanced expert content for both decision-makers and the broader public.
-
Strategic Approach – As an active member of the European Union, it is crucial for Hungary to thoroughly examine EU processes and to scientifically present Hungarian interests and opportunities.
-
Openness and Dialogue – The Institute believes in multifaceted, international cooperation and constructive dialogue. We actively build relationships with domestic and international experts, institutions, and decision-makers throughout our research activities.
-
National Interest and Global Perspective – Our analyses aim to promote Hungarian interests while taking into account broader geopolitical and economic contexts.
-
Innovation and Continuous Development – Staying up-to-date with the latest trends in foreign and EU policy is a key priority. Therefore, the Institute continuously improves its research methodologies and knowledge base.
The Institute’s overarching objective is to support the understanding of EU and related foreign policy processes based on professional and academic foundations, and to contribute to public discourse as a well-established and credible knowledge hub.
